tee-hee!!! :) (see? doesn't take much effort to make me smile...)

Friday, June 28, 2002

Was pondering if a Dandy Warhols gig in Rome is worth know, if I had nothing to do, I would go, since I also went to Remy Shand's gig last week, but that was a treat from myself for having passed another exam...but I've got plenty of things to do.

Gotta finish the yacht, for example, as exam's due on 16th July.

Oh, and, well, I've got another exam on Tuesday, that's 2nd July, but this time I'm not quite sure I'll be passing with that much of a *good* score...I mean, I did study, still I'm so tired I feel my brain going wobbly all the time, and I don't know what I'll be able to do when facing the professor. Current mood is: "my aim is to pass, so 18/30 to 30/30, everything's fine" (aside, for non-Italian people who may happen to read this: at Italian universities, you must score above 18/30 to pass an exam, if you score below that you must repeat the exam, and most of the times you have to wait for another exams session to do so, which means if you're sitting for an exam in July, that's the Summer session, and if you fail, you must wait until Autumn session to repeat the exam...very annoying.), but in the end I know I would feel down if I scored anything below 27/30. The lowest I ever scored was a shabby 24/30 in "Estimo" (which I never understood how to translate in English - that's where they teach you how to estimate the value of a project...economics stuff...never got my head round it completely, honest.), and, despite disliking the subject from the bottom of my guts, I felt sorry I *only* scored 24/30. Tho everybody kept telling me it was good, as in the end I'd passed the exam.

Points of view, they call them.
Giles' friend Chong's grandma died today at 100.

Monday Mission 2.25 via

1. Do you wear glasses/contact lenses? If so would you consider going through Lasik surgery? (Or if you already have, please tell us about it)
I do wear glasses as I'm short-sighted, although I don't wear them all the time as sometimes they give me headache for some reason or other (and no, I cannot wear contact lenses, I tried to but apparently my eyes get irritated by any type of contact lenses), but I am not bothered by having to wear glasses anyway, as I always have and am used to that. I don't think I'd go for Lasik, as until now I only read and heard of its reverse(s) of the medal, and there are too many of them so I don't rate it as secure enough...let's talk about it in 10 years' time, shall we? :)

2. Did you ever have to wear braces? How are your teeth? (any cavities, any pulled teeth, root canals, etc.)
Just two fillings, and that's it.

3. What (if any) recent movies have moved you emotionally? Which one and how so?
None, actually...

4. I visited my dear Mema in the managed care facility Sunday and while she is doing well, I was sad for her. Living out your final days/years someplace like that seems so lonely to me. Would you rather live the remainder of your golden years in a rest home, or pass away before it came to that?
Don't know really...I guess I'd like to end my days as a self-sufficient person, like my grandpa, who'll turn 93 in August and lives in his own flat, where he's always lived, and takes care of himself cos he's blessed by a good health!!

5. Sometimes, but not nearly often enough, I will just stop and marvel at the amazing planet on which we live. The eco-system, life and death, nature, the perfect balance that keeps us alive, the universe, it can all be mind-boggling if you let your mind get carried away. What natural creation or phenomenon just flat-out leaves you with a sense of wonder?
Not a specific thing, but I sometimes start wondering why I am here, I mean why I am myself and what am I doing here (Ok, I know Bruce Chatwin asked that before I did...), wondering if there's a reason to it all given the fact that the universe is infinite and in the maths of it all I count as nothing at all or nearly nothing at all...

6. Have you ever been in a fist fight or a situation where you had to get physically violent with someone else? How did that come about? Any consequences?
Not really, although my sister gets aggressive every now and then (not that often recently, phew!, mainly cos she's taken up kick-boxing classes, so she goes and fights there and not against me at home, hehehe!), and she punchs, kicks, scratches and bites...

7. Many times I look back in hindsight and think of how I should have handled a situation. Are there any recent happenings that you wish you would have handled differently? What happened and what do you wish you'd done?
Uhm...yes, I think I would've smacked somebody in the face, but, luckily for him I am a non-violent person, so I did nothing.

BONUS: How far away can you go, and still be dancing with me?
er...I'm afraid I can't dance...

Aww, poo, Senegal's out of the World Cup, too...congratulations to Turkey, but well done to Senegal too, cos they played really well.

Ok, so now Korea's obviously going to win over Germany (no need to watch the match) after having robbed Spain this morning, and uhm...Dad said Turkey's a good team and that could be a good match (if one likes football, that is!!), although Turkey's already been beaten by Brazil earlier during the World Cup and the Turkish are a bit angry cos apparently Brazil won cos of a penalty or something, don't know for sure as I didn't see the match, plus it actually makes no difference to me, as I forecast whichever of the two wins, they'll have to undergo humiliation when facing Korea in the final match, get three or four goals canceled by referees for no reason whatsoever and see Korea win the Cup.

I can't be bothered about football, but I guess sport should be about sport, not about going to play the final match just cos you're playing home.

Anyways, who cares...I'm much more worried for people in Iran after the earthquake. Poor people.

Friday, June 21, 2002

I was listening to Japan's "Lovers on main street", when my sister entered the room...she too kept listening for a while, then when she thought she'd got the general gist of what David Sylvian was singing about, she tried to sing along the chorus...only it turned out she thought he was singing "Love IS AN ICE CREAM", either young David Sylvian had an awful pronunciation, or my sister's a tad deaf, or it's so hot she wanted an ice-cream and some freudian lapsus made her sing that line...or her already poor English is worsening by the minute due to the fact she doesn't "exercise" it.

You choose the explanation you like best... ;-)
Ok, I've been authorised to post this, so, uhm, here's the link to my mate Mark's website...must remember to tell him to close the "centre" tag, though...uhm...well, I know, I'm pedantic.
Wooooooh! went to Remy Shand's gig last night!!! FOR FREE!!! Blurry brill! Motown no more junk!!! HURRAH!!!!!!

Plus, passed another exam at uni yesterday morning!!! I kick ass!!! :)))))))))))

Anyways, many thanks to Megan for this!!!!! mwa mwa!!!

aaaaaand....Brazil beats Engerland 2-1...sorry for all my Engerlish friends...cheer up, ok?

Wednesday, June 19, 2002

Of course, by now all of you know Italy's out of the World Cup...heh.

Oh, well. Over here people take football so seriously everybody (apart from me LOL) was hysterical's shameful and embarrassing, and not cos our national team lost a game...then why? read this: "A funereal sense of dismay and disbelief has descended on Italy following their team's World Cup exit at the hands of South Korea. Giovanni Trapattoni's team lost 2-1 despite having led from the 18th to the 88th minute through Christian Vieri's goal. But a late equaliser from Seol Ki-Hyeon and Ahn Jung-Hwan's golden goal spelled the end of Italy's stop-start campaign and stunned crowds into silence. And fans around the country, on a day when temperatures soared close to 40 degrees Celsius, took their anger out on the referee. Ecuador's Byron Moreno turned down calls for a penalty, disallowed a goal for offside and sent Francesco Totti off for diving. Following the conclusion of the match fans in Rome's Piazza del Popolo began to chant "death to the referee". And scuffles broke out in front of the capital's central train station as Italians hurled bottles and insults at a small group of South Korean supporters. "Thieves, thieves, you stole the game," they yelled before police moved in to restore order. Their view of the match and the referee was shared by the Italian media. Bruno Pizzul, the country's most famous commentator, commented: "Frankly, that was complete robbery." His anger was shared at the highest level. "The referee was a disgrace, absolutely scandalous," said Franco Frattini, Italy's minister for public offences. "I've never seen a game like it. It seemed as if they just sat around a table and decided to throw us out." Even respected Italian president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi weighed in, declaring that Italy had "deserved to win". "On the pitch I saw team spirit, guts, organisation and fair play. "They've honoured Italian soccer and its traditions." Their anger was matched by Italy's daily newspapers, with La Repubblica describing Moreno as "disgraceful". Sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport described the match as "cursed and damned". "Italy leave the World Cup sick with rage," it added. "Rage over having wasted a game they were leading against a team that was capable of very little in front of goal. "Rage and sadness over leaving the World Cup in the worst possible way, with a shadow of bad luck that persecuted us from the very first matches." "...btw, *football* and not "soccer" I asked PromoGuy, why do Americans call it "soccer", then call "football" holding an egg-shaped object while running with a helmet on own's head bumping violently into other helmet wearing people when it obviously has nothing to do with feet nor with a ball?

Oh, well, I don't really care anyway, as have more important things to think about...gonna sit for an exam tomorrow and I CAN'T REMEMBER A BLURRY THING!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!

Promo's questions for me for the Blogger Insider project (ok, last time I do the darn thing, don't have time!!!)...tee-hee!!

1. What is your name?

2. What is your favorite color?
Not sure if it's actually my favourite coloUr (hint-hint...), but I like shades of pink, purple and black...I think.

3. Do you have a boyfriend?

4. What color is your hair?

5. Do you have any pets?
only a sister...

6. How old are you?

7. What did you have for lunch?
tagliatelle with mushrooms, and salad.

8. What is your shoe size?
uhm, this is a hard one as we don't have the same measurement as the british nor as the americans...uhm...anyways, in *our* measurement, it's 39 or 40, depending on the type of shoes.

9. What color is your nailpolish?
not wearing nailpolish at the moment.

10. What was the last movie you saw?
at the cinema, "Spider-man".
on the telly, "Haunting" - never thought a film starring Catherine Zeta-Jones could be any good, it was anyway.

...and, btw, since I'm typing, let's compile Monday Mission 2.24 via PromoGuy, too, shall we?

1. What does Father's Day mean to you personally?
erm...we do celebrate the event in Italy...only it's on 19th March!!! :)))))

2. Was there a Father, or a Father Figure in your life as you grew up?
of course!! my Dad!!!

3. a) If you are a parent, is the father of your child(ren) involved on a daily basis? Is that even important?

or if you do not have children

b) Would you like to become a parent? Would you be good at raising your own children?

I don't have children, I think I'd like to become a parent, but I'm not quite sure how good I would be, I mean, I'd surely do the best I could, still parents make mistakes anyway, you can't expect them to be perfect. I guess the best one can do is raise their own children healthy, teach them to be polite, to respect other people and to try and be as happy as they can.

4. With Rosie, Callista, Jodie and Camryn all raising children without Fathers, Hollywood seems to be sending a message that children do not need male role models. Do you agree? Are these "stars" sending a good message to the young adults who admire them?
The very thought of Calista Flockhart having a baby is rather appalling to me, as looking at her I'm not really sure she can take care of herself let alone of a baby...then again, I'm probably completely wrong and she's an excellent mother. Anyway, I don't think it's a matter of giving a good or bad message, if they're good parents that's what matters, as raising children as a couple doesn't necessarily mean you'll be any better at parenting...still, I am very grateful I was raised by both parents!!!

5. Do you think the absence of a loving, caring father in the life of a child could have any influence on their sexual preferences when the child grows up?
not really. I guess maybe it would deliver more questions for mommy from the child, as "why my friends have a dad and I haven't got one", but I don't think it would have a specific role influencing the child's future sexual preferences.

6. Was there ever a time when your father became "uncool." Or maybe embarrassed you?
not yet! :-P

7. Are you ever too old to kiss your Dad?
it's just me and my sister: I'm the one who cuddles "papy", she's the one who fights with him - not in a bad way, they just play as she's sort of a tomboy sometimes!!

BONUS: When you coming home, dad?
Oh, he just has, he's been grocery-shopping with mom! :)
what ever happened to spacecheese??

Also, apparently I'm the top source to tell people what love is...not.
The stats thingy's working again, hurrah!!! Just in time, it today's top laugh was discovering that people got to my website doing a Google search for Totti with no clothes on!!!!!!! :-D

Thursday, June 13, 2002

Stupid stats thingy has gone kaputt, so everything's back to zero. grrrrrr. I liked the top referrers tool. grrrrrrrrrr.

Tuesday, June 11, 2002 presents Monday Mission 2.23

1. Do you have a side of the bed on which you prefer to sleep? Do you sleep on that side even when traveling or does it matter?
er...nope, if I'm tired, I sleep, if I'm not, I don't, no matter of what side of the bed. As simple as that.

2. What is your favorite "Theme Park?" How come and when was the last time you were there?
Never been to one.

3. What is your most and least favorite thing about staying in hotels?
Least: phone rates are hideously expensive. Best: I don't have to care about being messy!!

4. Did you ever take family vacations that required looooooong car rides? Were siblings involved ("Stop touching me! Don't cross this line!)? Were the trips just unbearable or did you make up some "car ride games" to pass the time?
Uhm, each time we all go to Eboli by car (300km journey), the argument is always "STOP PLAYING RICKY MARTIN IN THE CAR STEREO!!!!!!!

5. With all the drilled peep-holes and spy-cams we hear about on the news, have you everfelt self-conscious about taking off your clothes in a hotel bathroom? Has wondering if someone was on the other side of that mirror on the wall above the dresser made you think twice about "gettin' busy?"
Oh my!! No!!!

6. Describe the most romantic vacation you have ever taken or if that does not apply ;), tell me about the worst vacation you have ever taken.
I can't cos it has to do with somebody who reads this.

7. (continued) After a full tummy and four days of sleep, I'd say I've never felt better. Since it is nearly noon, how about you come over and we'll hang out on the deck. I have a pool, hot tub and lotsa eats and drink. But feel free to bring whatever else you think we need! How should we spend this fine afternoon at the pool?
From all this eating and drinking I've grown a belly!!! why don't we just swim?? if I eat one more morsel or whatever that is I'm gonna puke, that wouldn't be nice in your pool, would it?? :-P

BONUS: Have you got it, do you get it, if so, how often?

Saturday, June 08, 2002

The chance to have a nice holiday this summer has gone *pouf!*...

To cut a long story short, I meant to go to UK in August, but, due to circumstances (ie: fambly being a cove of morons.), I won't be going.

Needless to say, this was my last chance to have a decent holiday, as, since I'll be (hopefully) graduating in a few months and then looking for a decent job and saving to buy a flat or something (as there's no frickin' way I'm staying at my parents' any longer, nor that I'm renting anywhere. I. Want. *My*. *Own*. *Place*. Even if it's going to be only 20 square metres big, I don't care, I want a place that is mine.), I won't have neither the time nor the money to go on a proper holiday for ages, I reckon.

Oh, anyways, I was wrong earlier, as sister didn't say "go Totti, go!!", instead she was singing a silly footie fans song to a silly tune in Rome's slang (don't run that in an Italian/English translator cos it would just give error...) that goes:

(translation: "Who cares about Ronaldo when we have Totti goal? Totti goal! Totti goal! Who cares - when we have Totti goal!!!"...)

If you need to be saved from all the football craze, please do read what that man called Graham Reed has to say about football (soccer, for non-europeans...), and, above all, please do read the comments other people left to Graham's essay...

I was minding my own business, making a 3d model of a yacht I'm designing (which, btw, looks pretty nice, although I still hate boats, yachts, catamarans, trimarans and the whole lot of them including canoes and gondolas), while Italy was playing Croatia.

For the record, Croatia won 2-1, if anybody's interested.

Anyways, until Italy was winning 1-0, my sis was all smug and giggling loudly in the living room while watching the match on the telly, making fun of some ugly Croatia player of other I don't know the names of (I don't know names of Italian players, either, only two or three that comedians make fun of every now and then.), even sympathising for that Totti chap going "go Totti, go!!", when she can't stand him every other day as he plays in A.S. Roma while she is a Lazio supporter...some Italian player had scored earlier, but the referee said it was offside. Fine, I think, if it's offside, and offside is a bad thing (I have absolutely no clue of what offside is. I know of offset, me, but it has nothing to do with football...), then it's fair enough. But nooooooo...she thought the referee was a dork instead, there was no offside etc etc. Oh well, you're watching the match, I ain't, I said, so you know what you're talking about. Then Italy scored. She went "WOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOO!!".

Then Croatia scored.

Then Croatia scored again.

And again she said it was the referee's fault, not, obviously, Italy's players being crap, heaven forbid...

Then Italy scored again, but, *again* the referee said it was offside or something else had happened, so they didn't count it. Sis is in complete autorant by now, blaming the whole of Britain (apparently the referee is British), Falkland Islands included, possibly any Commonwealth connection as well, and stating that all British people are twats.

And they wonder how do wars begin...

This to prove football isn't a good thing.

As if there was any need to prove that, anyway.

Thursday, June 06, 2002

Arata Isozaki won the competition for the new hockey palace in Turin.

Will they be able to build it in time for Winter Olympics 2006 that will be held in Turin?

OMG, is it Thursday already?!?

Monday Mission 2.22

1. Who or where do you go to when you need help for web-related problems?
People! I've got amazing news!! I gave my mate Richard nerdy advice (well, not *that* nerdy, still nerdy enough compared to his anti-nerdiness...) via MSN yesterday!! I'm officially a member of the web-nerdy community now!!
Anyways, if I do need help with not only web, but all that's got to do with computers, I've got a short list of people I can ask advice to:
1) my cousin Carlo, chief nerd of my fambly, for anything that has to do with a computer, really (he's studying IT at uni!!);
2) Giles, for psychological support, actually, each time my computer doesn't respond to commands he gets a text message from me on his mobile, and it usually goes "aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!";
3) Gabriel, sometimes, for blog-related advice.
Any other thing, I'm perfectly capable to mess it up by myself... :)

2. There is a big mess of gossip going on in the blogging community due to revelations about a very popular Blogger. I got very caught up in reading all the links to links about it until I stopped myself realizing it was none of my business. Do you ever get caught up in gossip, either speading it or listening to it? How does it make you feel? Or have you ever been the subject of gossip?
Oh, well...this one is easy. I once set up a yahoogroup just for me and two friends of mine where to post all the gossip we wanted to chat about, it was called "ourgossipcorner" and every time someone posted a message in there, the subject line started with *GOSSIP!*...go figure. Tho, the truth is, we didn't gossip about other people as much as we did about ourselves. It was more a place where to post all our paranoid ramblings on how life sucks etc...but then I got a blog, and I started posting the same stuff in there!!!
Btw, who is the blogger you're talking about?!? :-P

3. In a relationship, when your other takes a dig at you (read: a fight), do you go for the jugular and get "in their face" or try to peacefully smooth things out and have a calm discussion?
Neither. I don't go for the jugular (that's not a nice thing!!), but won't smooth things out if I think the other person is completely wrong. I just _calmly_ tell them that I think they're out of the tracks, but won't let them win a match just cos they can yell more than me. If it comes to physical violence, instead, I just say bye bye. I don't like violence, especially against me.

4. A friend once told me "You can tell when someone is bored with what you are saying to them when they reply with 'That's interesting.'" And I have found this to be pretty dang true. How do you know when someone has lost interest in what you are saying?
When they start yawning...:)))

5. Ever get jealous of the popularity other Blogs?
Uhm...not really. Mine is a very, veeeeeeeeeery low traffic one, but that's ok with me, as I'm not that much interested into being a popular blogger as much as being able to rant on an on about stuff that's pointless to other people 99% of the times!!

6. What is your favorite dirty word? (those who don't curse can pick your favorite happy word)
"porca puzzola" - my own invention, it means "dirty skunk" (literally, "piggy skunk"...), and it's a variation on some other not very nice idiomatic phrase people say over here when they're angry, only it has another word starting with "pu-" instead of "puzzola"...

7. (the continuing story...) OK, we are definitely doing that again. But seeing as it is nearly 6am now, how about breakfast? Anywhere you'd like to go or should we fix our own? What do you like? Or is there something else we need to do first?
6am?!? blast I'm going to be late for classes!!!!!!

BONUS: What have I done to deserve this?
Oh, nothing, really, you're such a nice guy!! :-P
Note to self: you *must* find a way to get a job HERE.

Sunday, June 02, 2002

I've been paired up with PromoGuy, the brain (and heart) behind the Monday Mission, for ANOTHER Blogger insider thingy.........aaaaaaaargh! well, at least this time I've got to "interview" somebody I know (well, not for real, but I've been reading his blog for some time, so I can say I know PromoGuy...can't I?)...though...I've run out of sensible questions to ask...Promo, be warned, this one is going to be SILLY!!!!!!!!!! :)

anyways, other news are I took off the chatterbox from this page - it was causing too many pop-up ads, I'm told, and I know some people just don't like them...:-P
Missing in action London Undergound mug update:

mug found (still alive) in living room's sideboard this morning. No major traumas. Actually, no traumas at all. Phew!

Saturday, June 01, 2002

Someone please explain to me all this manga hype. Everywhere I go on the net, there are people decorating their websites with manga-like sketches and drawings. why? I mean, tis alright, but what's exactly so beautiful about manga cartoons and comics? I don't get it, I'm probably too dumb to get it, I really don't...

(p.s.: has anybody seen my London Undergound mug? I had just found it again after ages of its AWOLness, and was just starting to enjoy having a nice cup of tea every now and then using I'm lost cos it's lost again...WHERE IS MY MUG?????????)
